The police were patrolling the streets of Sitio Tinago in Barangay Benolho at 5:30 AM when they got open fire coming from Espinosa's Mansion.
Eastern Visayas Police Regional Director Elmer Beltejar said that the police encountered 12 armed men. Six of the alleged Espinosa's men where killed. The police searched the the mansion and recovered 14 assorted long firearms, 5 caliber .45 pistols and grenades.
One of the killed men is said to be the leader of Mayor Espinosa's private armed group.
Mayor Rolando Espinosa surrendered yesterday after President Duterte's warning that he will give a shoot-on-sight order if he doesn't surrender within 24-hours. Meanwhile, PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa sent a message to Kerwin Espinosa to surrender or die.
